Temasek Polytechnic sits at 21 Tampines Avenue 1, in the east of Singapore near the Tampines and Bedok Reservoir area. The closest MRT station is Tampines West (DT31) on the Downtown Line, an easy walk from campus, with Bedok Reservoir (DT30) also nearby. If you're hunting for a room, the honest starting point is this: the closest housing to TP sits in Tampines, Bedok North, and Bedok Reservoir itself, not further out. Lazybee's three houses aren't in that pocket, and this guide is upfront about what that means before it gets into anything else.

Where exactly is Temasek Polytechnic?

TP's campus is in the northeast corner of Tampines, close to the boundary with Bedok Reservoir. It's a big, self-contained campus, common for Singapore's polytechnics, with its own bus interchange feeding students in from across the east side of the island.

Tampines West MRT is the nearest station and the one most students use for a direct walk in. Tampines Interchange (EW2/DT32), a short bus or ride away, connects onto the East-West Line and Downtown Line both, which matters if you're coming from further afield. Bedok Reservoir MRT sits close by too, useful if your room happens to be on that side of the estate.

TP also runs its own bus interchange feeding students in from across the east side of the island.

What does housing actually look like near TP?

Tampines and Bedok Reservoir are both large, established HDB towns, which means the local rental market runs the way most HDB estates in Singapore do. A shared room in a flat is the most common option, listed by individual landlords on the usual portals, with prices and availability changing constantly. Condo rooms exist too, scattered through the newer developments around Tampines North and along Tampines Avenue 1 itself, generally at a premium over HDB.

What you won't find much of near TP specifically is purpose-run co-living. Most operators, Lazybee included, cluster their houses in the central and northern parts of the island rather than the far east, so a poly student prioritising a five-minute walk to class is usually better served searching HDB and condo listings directly in Tampines or Bedok Reservoir than looking at co-living generally.

Is Lazybee near Temasek Polytechnic?

No, and it's worth saying plainly rather than dressing it up. Lazybee runs three houses: Chiltern Park in Serangoon, Ivory Heights in Jurong East, and Thomson Grove off Yio Chu Kang Road near Lentor. All three sit in the central or northern parts of Singapore. TP is out east in Tampines. None of our three houses are a short commute to this campus.

Realistically, getting from any of our houses to TP means at least one MRT transfer and somewhere in the range of 50 to 75 minutes door to door, depending on which house and how the connections line up on the day. That's not a commute most students would choose to do daily if a closer option exists, and we'd rather tell you that now than have you find out after signing.

Where a Lazybee house could still make sense: if commute isn't your only priority, if you split time between TP and somewhere closer to one of our three areas (family, a part-time job, a partner), or if you're weighing up house culture and room setup as much as travel time, it's worth a look. But if minimising your daily trip to campus matters most, start with housing that's actually in Tampines or Bedok Reservoir first.

How old are most TP students, and does that affect renting?

Polytechnic students in Singapore are typically 17 to 19 years old, since most enrol straight after completing the O-Levels. That age range sits right at the edge of Singapore's rules on who can sign a rental agreement in their own name.

Age when the agreement startsWho signs
18 or 19The student, in their own name. Contractual capacity in Singapore starts at 18, not 21
17A parent or guardian, as the named party or co-signatory

Polytechnic students here are typically 17 to 19, since most enrol straight after O-Levels, which puts this age range right at the edge of the rule.

For where the confusion around "21" actually comes from, see our guide to under-21 renting in Singapore.

What to check before you commit to a room near TP

  • Actual commute time, walked or ridden yourself, not just the straight-line distance on a map
  • Whether the room is private or shared, and what that does to your monthly cost
  • Guardian requirements, if you're 17 and the agreement needs a co-signatory
  • What's included in rent, utilities and wifi separately billed can add up fast on a student budget
  • Lease length against your semester dates, since Singapore's three-month minimum stay applies to almost all private rentals, TP terms included
  • Proximity to food and groceries, Tampines and Bedok Reservoir are both well served, but exact walking distance still varies room to room
  • Security and access, especially if you're living independently for the first time
